Matching Halter Sets
(halter, hats, purses, and scrunchies)

Halter Top and Halter Dress
Pattern from Crochet Techniques & Projects, Sunset Books,1976

These are very easy to make. The first one is a little on the revealing side! Have fun.
Halter Top

Materials: 2 ounces 4-ply knitting worsted
G aluminum crochet hook (or hook to give proper gauge)
Gauge: 4 stitches = 1 inch; 3 rose = 1 inch
Main Stitch: Half double crochet
Size: 8-12

Ch 29.
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and into each ch across (28 dc), ch 2, turn.
Row 2: Sk 1st st., hdc in 2nd st and in each st of previous row, ch 2, turn.
Row 3: 2 hdc in top of 2nd st (inc made), hdc in top of turning ch, ch 2, turn (3-hdc)
Row 4: Rep row 2.
Row 5: 2 hdc in top of 2nd st (inc made), hdc in nextr 8 sts, ch 4, *sk 1st st, dc in next st, rep from * 3x, ch 4, sk 1 st, hdc across to last 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st (inc made), hdc in turning ch, ch 2, turn.
Row 6: 2 hdc in 2nd st., hdc in next 9 sts, ch 4, sc in top of each dc (4 sc), ch 4, hdc across to last 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in turning ch, ch 2, turn.
Row 7: 2 hdc in 2nd st, hdc in next 10 sts, ch 4, sc in each sc, ch 4, hdc to last 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in turning ch, ch 2, turn.
Row 8: 2 hdc in 2nd st, hdc in next 11 sts, ch 4, sc in each sc, ch 4, hdc to last 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in turning ch, ch 2, turn.
Row 9: 2 hdc in 2nd st, hdc in next 12 sts, *ch 1, dc in sc, rep from * 3x, ch 1, hdc across to last 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in turning ch, ch 2, turn.
Row 10: 2 hdc in 2nd st, hdc across row (at pattern, hdc in each ch and dc of previous row).
Row 11: Hdc across row and in turning ch (42 hdc).
Row 12: Hdc across row, inc’ing at each end (44 hdc).
Row 13: Rep row 11 (44 hdc).
Row 14: 2 hdc in top of 2nd st, hdc in next 15 sts, ch 4, *sk 1st st, dc in next st, rep from * 3x, ch 4, sk 1 st, hdc across to last 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in turning ch, ch 2, turn.
Row 15: Hdc in 2nd st and in next 16 sts, ch 4, sc in top of next 4 dc, ch 4, hdc across row and in turning ch, ch 2, turn.
Row 16: 2 hdc in top of 2nd st, hdc in next 16 sts, ch 4, sc in next 4 sc, ch 4, hdc across to last 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in turning ch, ch 2, turn.
Row 17: 2 hdc in top of 2nd st, hdc in next 17 sts,, ch 4, sc in next 4 sc, ch 4, hdc across to last 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in turning ch, ch 2, turn.
Row 18: 2 hdc in top of 2nd st, hdc in next 18 sts, *ch 1, dc in next sc, rep from * 3x, ch 1, hdc across to last 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in turning ch, ch 2, turn.
Row 19: 2 hdc in top of 2nd st, hdc across (at pattern, hdc in each ch and dc of previous row) to last 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in turning ch (53 hdc), ch 2, turn.
Rows 20-26: Hdc across each row, inc’ing at each end.
To Make Ties: Working in same directions, ch 40, turn. Sc in 1st ch from hook and in each ch until corner is reacher (bottom tie made); work along side, making 1 sc in end of each row; at top corner, ch 40, turn, sc in 1st ch and in each ch (neck tie made); sc across top, ch 40, making 2nd neck tie as before; sc down side, making 1 sc in end of each row, ch 40, turn; make bottom tie as before, making 1 sc in each st along bottom; join with sl st, end off.

Halter Dress

(this is a pattern for a halter top that can be attached to a skirt, but I just use as a halter top)
Materials: One tube of 3-ply linen yarn (sold on 1 pound tubes, one tube will make several halters) or 5 ounces of 4-ply knitting worsted.
G aluminum crochet hook (or hook to give proper gauge)
Fourteen ½ inch beads
Wrap-around or gathered skirt
Gauge: 4 stitches = 1 inch; 5 rows = 2 inches
Main Stitch: Half double crochet
Size: 8-12

Ch 29.
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and into each ch across (28 dc), ch 2, turn.
Row 2: Sk 1st st., hdc in 2nd st and in each st of previous row, ch 2, turn.
Row 3: 2 hdc in top of 2nd st (inc made), hdc in top of turning ch, ch 2, turn (3-hdc)
Row 4: Rep row 2.
Rows 5-10: Rep rew 3, inc’ing 1 st each end (42 hdc).
Row 11: Hdc across row and in turning ch (42 hdc).
Row 12: Hdc across row, inc’ing at each end (44 hdc).
Row 13: Rep row 11 (44 hdc).
Row 14: Rep row 12 (46 hdc).
Row 15: Rep row 11 (46 hdc).
Rows 16-27: Rep row 12 (70 hdc).
Rows 28-31: Rep row 11. (If using knitting worsted, rep row 11 five more times, or until proper length.)
Row 32: Hdc across row, 2 hdc and 1 sc in top of turning ch. Do not turn, but working along side of halter, sc in end of each row. When last side st reached, ch 30 or desired length for tie, turn, sc in 1st ch from hook and in each ch until corner is reached (tie made). Sc across top of halter, ch 30, turn, sc in 1st ch from hook and in each ch until corner reached (tie made). Work down last side, sc in end of each row. End off.
To Finish: Sew halter top to a purchased or home sewn wrap-around or gathered skirt. Slip two beads over the end of each tie at nexk and secure with an overhand knot. Thread remaining beads for front of halter top with linen yarn and tie or sew to neckline.
